紅帽及 NVIDIA 攜手為電信業帶來高效能、軟體定義的 5G RAN

NVIDIA (輝達) 今日宣布與全球領先開放原始碼解決方案供應商 Red Hat (紅帽) 共同合作,將在紅帽 OpenShift 上運作的高效能、軟體定義 5G 無線基礎架構,帶入電信產業。

這項合作案由 NVIDIA 創辦人暨執行長黃仁勳在洛杉磯世界行動通訊大會 (MWC Los Angeles) 主題演說中正式宣告。NVIDIA 將協助電信業者過渡轉至具備可運行各種由軟體定義之邊緣工作負載的5G網路。合作初期,將聚焦於 5G 無線接取網路 (RAN),目標是要讓存取電信業者邊緣的人工智慧 (AI) 賦能應用,更加方便可及。

紅帽與 NVIDIA 稍早曾宣布在企業資料中心將加速採用 Kubernetes;目前雙方則以此為基礎,繼續聯手努力。兩家公司的擴大合作,讓客戶得以更便利地使用 NVIDIA EGX 平台Red Hat OpenShift 部署 NVIDIA GPU,以加速 AI、資料科學與機器學習在邊緣的作業。

而讓 5G 供應商得以轉戰雲端原生架構的關鍵要素,正是 NVIDIA Aerial。甫於今日發表的 NVIDIA Aerial 軟體開發人員套件,能讓供應商藉著實現兩項必要的進展,打造與推出高效能、軟體定義的 5G 無線RAN。這兩項進展,就是 Mellanox 網路介面卡直通GPU記憶體的低延遲資料路徑,以及可以將所有資料保存在GPU高效能記憶體內的5G實體層信號處理引擎。

黃仁勳表示:「業界正在全力衝刺 5G,而『萬物皆具智慧』的革命,也方興未艾。即將遍佈在全球各地的數十億個感測器與裝置,可以實現新的應用與服務。 NVIDIA 正與紅帽攜手合作,要為這個全新的 5G 世界打造一個雲端原生的、具高度擴充性的高效能GPU運算架構。在 NVIDIA EGX Edge 超級運算平台 (Supercomputing Platform) 的驅動下,全新一波的應用即將崛起,一如當初的智慧型手機革命。」

紅帽 OpenShift 提供企業級、生產就緒的 Kubernetes,以便管理 Aerial 5G RAN、容量網路功能以及其它新的邊緣服務,並使它們自動化。這將協助電信業者以所需的規模,部署與管理現代化的架構。
